Wimbledon over the Web

Roger won Roddick! =)

I watched.. hmm listen may be.. hahaha I don't have any TV here so, I had to watch (listen) it over the webcam while I do my project.. hahahaha..

Can say its my first time watching a tennis match so long without my family, 'cause usually its like our family's tradition to watch a tennis game together. Rushing back from Dinner on a Saturday's night to watch Wimbledon..... Ahh memories... Can't wait to go back home. Must be nice to have dinner in "Jia" or "Ryonma" with my family again! I don't think I'll be able to live back my previous life, 'cause I've grown up.

But I guess the life back home in future will be as nice, except that now, I have one extra person to love and to be loved by. :)

p/s: Puppy Love is damn cute la! I'm so hyped up seeing lil kids in love hahaha!
I wonder when will I see my own sister in love, like, openly??? hahahahahaha

Michael Jackson's Tragic Death

Michael Jackson's tragic death hit hard on me.

Can't believe I'm in tears..... Rest in Peace, King of Pop. One very talented and iconic performer. You, shall forever remain in our heart. Its sad not being able to see you performing anymore... it's like so sudden...
Life's so vulnerable isnt it?....

All of these tragic death makes us realise how precious every single moment of our life is. We take these examples as a reminder in our life.. Let bygones be bygones, what we can do now is to make the best out of everything we have...
"Our parents are getting older day by day...." - 19th June 09, Chiau Yee.
We must love everyone around us... Its now or never..

Behind his performer's suit, behind his stunning entertainment he brought us, do you know what's under his skin, face, nose which is fake?
A real performer.

Even when

Even when the butterflies bid all the flowers goodbye;
Even when all the stars stop gleaming in the dark indigo sky,
I will accept, and never to myself, I will try to lie,
Because its the Nature's decision which I shall never defy...

Who Should be Blamed?

Miss B got an exorbitant present from Mr. A. Mr. A paid for every Miss B's meal. Mr. A's friends claimed that Miss B is wrong, hiao, evil, using him.

This is, if, we put it this way : "Miss B got an exorbitant present from Mr. A. Mr. A paid for every Miss B's meal." Indeed, it sounds like Miss B is using Mr. A.

Let us put it the other way round. Mr. A gave Miss B an exorbitant present and threat her meals. This sounds more like Mr. A is willing an happy to do so. So, Miss B is just satisfying Mr. A's desire.

The guy might not be happy with losing out so much on a girl, but he himself is the controller of what he can do. He simply need to stop or pause and retreat from that parasitic relationship. But he did not. So how are we suppose to blame entirely on Miss B?

Moreover, come and think about it, what did Miss B do to exchange for those? Certainly priceless.

Not saying that Miss B is right for demanding a lot, just trying to show how prejudice some judgement can be sometimes. There are situations where both parties should be blamed on simultaneously.

The Very Horrifying LNAT test

Yesterday night. I was trying to sleep early as I need my brain to be wide awake for the National Admission Test for Law(LNAT) this morning. However, yesterday was the last day for University Semester/Term, not quite sure, but definitely a night for everyone to celebrate.. zzz
My housemates were so noisy that I cannot sleep ! Shouting and screaming, probably 'cause they are drunk.. I can't stand any longer so I told Naib to tell them to keep their voice low..

Newcastle, UK Newcastle, UK
Level 1.

The test was a disaster!
80 minutes + 40 minutes no breaks.
I was put into a room and the whole process is video recorded if not mistaken. So tensed....

I spent 10 minutes ++ doing the first 2 passages I was lk..
SHIT I only have 60 minutes for the next 8 passages. (Yes, there are 10 passages, 30 MCQs in 80 minutes) The first 2 passages are so long! And the questions are already so confusing! I don't even have time to think, I just chosed the answer I think is right.

And the essay. I don't really understand the essay questions. I'm not quite sure if I can put this online so I shall not. sigh.....
I only managed to write like 590 words in 40 minutes when I should write 750?

I spent the first 5 minutes interpreting and understanding and choosing between 5 horrible question. There is one which I totally don't understand AT ALL. So I cancelled it out already. leaving me 4. Then I spent lk 8 minutes thinking what the hell to write! Leaving me about 27 minutes left for the 700 words essay!

Whatever! let's forget it!

Outside Collingwood House.

This is probably the perfect picture that Shi Loong will love best.

Newcastle, UK
But I love this best!

The one thing I like about Newcastle is its fine blend of modern + a bit of old architecture.

As I walked (*proud* my dad was lk HUH? My princess WALKED back? xD) back to the city centre, (The weather is SOOOOOOOOOO NICE! I think about 14 degree celcius. So warm.. and sunny.) I saw crowds from far.

Newcastle, UK
Somewhere around the Monument, outside Fenwick and French Connection and not forgetting... STARBUCKS *sick*... (you will see at least one Starbucks in the UK every 3 minutes walk.)

They emphasis a lot of Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Outside Mark and Spencer.

I went to Mark and Spencer to do some groceries...
Then.... I didn't walk back.. I took the taxi back. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Lazy to walk d lah.. and the groceries are so heavy...
For those who'll be coming to Newcastle,
TAKE BLUELINE TAXI! 'cause its cheaper. NODA taxi COST ME 5.60 pounds!!!!!! I think you can get lk only 3.60 pounds from City Centre to Leazes Parade via Blueline taxi.

LNAT

I've been cracking my brain with loads of practice test for the past 3 hours.
I'm exhausted.. Mentally super exhausted.. Physically also...

It amazes me how they can design questions to be so critical. Oh my god!
I tried LNAT year 2006 test on http://www.lnat.ac.uk/2008/preparation/practice.html
I got 17/30 correct. MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS, how difficult can it be?
Testing your logic/common sense? This is the worse MCQ I've ever seen.

Try http://www.lsat.org/LSAT/lsat-prep-materials.asp too.

I was happy when I do not need IELTS score.. Now, I rather sit IELTS test for 10 times rather than sitting one LNAT. I don't know.. I feel very pressured.....

The requirements I got are crazy... at least 70 for EACH module. Note, EACH module, not OVERALL. I thought My Maths will help me to raise my average.. but no..... I need to get 70 for EVERY each subject..... Ugh..... 70 might seem to be very low to all of you.. but when you come to UK Unis....
I'm confident about doing well in Maths and British Culture.
But, getting 70+ in subjects like Business, Socio and Study Skills is like getting 90+ in PCGHS for me.
If you get 70, you will be awarded the first class honours..
Now..... tell me how easy can that be?

Why did I want to take up law?
Why?
Why I always do things which give me the more stress and pressure?

Let me end this post with something nice. An essay I'm expected to present in 40 minutes time in LNAT this Saturday. It's worth reading. We are expected to not use bombastic words or any knowledge in argueing but just attacking the questions from different perspectives. Take a look. This is the main reason why I like intellegent talks, which, intrigues my interest to law in the first place.

Make the best case you can for public funding of the arts.

There are two main worries about public funding of the arts. One is that there seem nowadays to be so many more urgent calls on public money. Isn't public funding for the arts an unaffordable luxury? The second worry is that there seem to be so many other things that are similar to the arts, but that do not attract similar public funding. Are the arts being picked out for special privileges, perhaps thanks to snobbery? I will try to show why, in spite of these worries, the arts remain a deserving case for some public funding.

Let's begin with the claim that the arts are attracting special treatment. A comparison can be made with sports. Like the arts, sports call for skill and discipline from their participants. Like the arts, sports can be enjoyed by spectators as well as participants. Like the arts, sports vary a lot among themselves. Like the arts, sports are publicly funded to some extent. The main difference seems to be, however, that while public funding of sports is usually restricted to support for participants (e.g training of sportspeople), public funding of the arts often extends to spectators as well as participants. One can go to an art gallery or museum for free, but one pays to go to Anfield or Brands Hatch. Is this fair?

The answer is that the contrast is exaggerated. On the one hand, spectatorship of sports is sometimes publicly funded. One can watch Wimbledon on the BBC for free, just as one can go to an art gallery for free. On the other hand, not all spectatorship of the arts is publicly funded. It costs money to go to a premier league football match, but it costs no less to see a stadium rock concert. One must be careful to compare like with like. One should compare the treatment of niche arts with that of niche sports, arts infrastructure with sports infrastructure, etc. One should also be careful not to assume a purist's definition of the arts, according to which a stadium rock concert doesn't count as an arts event. That would be like claiming that football is not a sport, but only a game (sports being limited to pursuits that involve horses and hounds!)

In general we should expect public arts and sports funding to go to pursuits that are worth preserving but will otherwise not be viable, because there are otherwise not enough people who will pay enough money for them, while keeping them open to others. The government should step in where the market fails. But this brings us straight to our other worry. Surely, with so many more urgent calls on government expenditure, support for such things as sports and arts, however admirable, must be a low priority? They may be worth preserving, but is their preservation more urgent than the preservation of human lives in public hospitals?

The thought here is that priority should reflect urgency. But this seems a bad principle for government. It leads to the government thinking only about the short-term. Shouldn't the government provide for the future, as well as coping with the present? If so, the arts, like sports, seem suitable for inclusion in the government's longer-term plans. The government needs to ask itself whether great achievements and great excellences can be allowed to go to waste, bearing in mind that once they have gone to waste it will be much more expensive to recreate them (or to create replacements for them).

This argument seems to assume that a time will come when we will miss the arts or sports we have lost. That may not be true. Few people miss Morris dancing (a nearly dead art) or jousting (a nearly dead sport). But suppose we lost all dance-related arts, or all performance arts? Suppose we lost all combat sports, or all dangerous sports? Then we will live in a world with fewer choices and fewer opportunities for human beings to excel and develop their abilities, as well as for other human beings to spectate and admire this development. One important job for governments, even if it is never urgent, is to keep a wide variety of arts (and sports) alive for the future so that the future is at least as full of interesting options as the present.
